Our client is one of the leading manufacturers of short shelf life chilled products in the UK serving the majority of the major multiples, with instantly recognisable products and a track record of innovation and success. They now require an ambitious and results driven Operations Manager who can deliver a strategic change programme across the site.
The Role
This role is focused on developing an integrated Operations and Engineering function with a cohesive plan to manage and deploy resources to optimum advantage, driving non-value add activities out of the business, ensuring costs are kept under control or reduced and a plan and culture of continuous improvement is engendered. This continuous improvement drive should relate to both production and engineering targets and standards of quality / efficiency and safety.
Liaising closely with HR on training needs to deliver the proposed changes you will act as a coach and mentor to the employee base to enhance capability and establish a highly trained / skilled workforce. In addition you are tasked to develop and maintain the highest standards of safety and employee relations through effective communication and training. Furthermore you will actively promote Company Policy at all times, continuously challenge existing manufacturing / engineering practices to maintain a safe working environment in accordance with company policy, company plan, departmental plan, company rules and health and safety legislation.
Experience
The ideal candidate will be a rounded Operations Manager with a completer finisher mentality. We are looking for a real team player capable of winning over hearts and minds, with the ability to install discipline and accountability throughout the site. It is essential that you have experience of the FMCG sector, ideally with knowledge of highly automated process plant, batch driven environments.
With a demonstrable track record of success delivering fit for purpose continuous improvement / OEE practices, whilst adhering to strong management and leadership principles, you will be a commercially orientated individual, with excellent interpersonal skills and experience of successfully delivering change management programmes to improve efficiencies. This experience should ideally have been gained within a highly unionised environment. Given the nature of this role it could potentially suit candidates with an engineering background before moving into operations.
